High Rise Installation Procedures

Remove Safe-T-Strap from box.

Check Straps for unusual cuts or fraying.

Once the shear wall is poured and the forms are being removed, place the looped end of the Safe-T-Strap over an embedded re-bar dowel protruding through the top of the  shear wall.  Safe-T-Strap should be installed six (6) feet back from the  perimeter of the building.
Once Safe-T-Strap is installed, the forming of the floor continues and Safe-T-Strap is firmly  anchored by pouring concrete over the protective sleeve.

Once the fly forms or conventional forming is removed, Safe-T-Strap will be hanging from the  corner of the sheer wall and the ceiling - six feet back from the  perimeter.

Horizontal life lines or static lines may be attached to two opposite embedded Safe-T-Strap. Two workers may then attach their life lines to the horizontal life line, providing maximum mobility and fall protection. Some  jurisdictions may require an engineer to certify a static line is acceptable for various work practices.

When the fall  hazard has been eliminated from the perimeter, i.e., the exterior wall has been  erected, the Safe-T-Strap is removed by cutting it off at the base.

Where shear walls or columns do not exist, Safe-T-Strap can be installed by inserting an 8" piece of rebar through the straps looped end, then inserting that end 4” into the poured concrete.

Residential Installation Procedures

Safe-T-Strap consists of a two inch wide webbing, with a 2-1/2 inch d-ring attached at one end. The other end of the Strap is folded and stitched in place. (All nails used to secure the Safe-T-Strap must be hammered through the folded stitched area.)
(1)The Safe-T-Strap must be attached using standard 3" framing nails and provides an anchor point with a tested failure strength provided the following steps are adhered to.

(1)
Using two ardox nails, the folded stitched end of the Safe-T-Strap is attached to the top plate of the wall or truss. (Note: These nails must be hammered in place securely.) (2 & 3) The Safe-T-Strap is then wrapped once around the single two-by-four (or double two-by-six) (4)and a third nail is hammered through both strap surfaces.

The same procedure applies to the attachment of the Safe-T-Strap to the roof truss. (1)First two ardox nails are inserted in the folded stitched end (Note: In the case of a two-by-four roof truss, the driven nails must be hammered over the opposite side of the strap before proceeding with step two) (4)then the remaining length of the strap is wrapped around the truss twice and a third nail is driven through both sections and folded over again.
Note: It is the recommendation of the Safe-T-Strap Company that before the truss is raised, fastened and braced in place, a lifeline of sufficient length is attached to the Safe-T-Strap to ensure access to the roof.

When installing Safe-T-Strap on floors, nails must be inserted through the stitched looped end opposite the d-ring. Straps should be placed a measured distance from the perimeter of the floor, including the length of the lanyard used to ensure adequate travel restraint. It is a requirement of the engineered system that four (4) double-headed (duplex) nails secure the strap to the floor. They must be secured into a floor joist below the plywood floor.

The placement of the straps on both the top plate of the second storey wall, the roof trusses and the floor will depend on the style of the house. The recommended placement is approximately every 6 feet on completion of installation. Safe-T-Strap should hang at least 12" inches below the bottom of the installed fascia and 12" inches from the peak of the roof.
